As part of Reeds commitment to the environment, and to help lessen our impact on it, we successfully underwent Forest Stewardship Council certification in February 2009.

Reeds are FSC certifiedFSC certification is widely accepted to be the most stringent around and unlike other schemes, the emphasis is on tracking fibre all the way from the forest to the end user, so that, you and your customers, can be certain of the fibre’s origins. The FSC scheme is supported by groups such as Greenpeace and WWF schemes as watertight.

FSC 'chain of custody' certification tells our customers that the wood in a paper or board product is from a certified forest, controlled source or recycled.

FSC certified paper after coming off the litho pressBy being FSC accredited our customers can benefit by printing an 'on-product' claim to their job which will, not only, add value to their printed products but also demonstrate their own environmental awareness.

Our 'chain of custody' is audited by an independent FSC accredited certification body at regular intervals. Every link in the supply chain from the the forest to Reeds Printers needs their own chain of custody certificate.

The FSC Principles of forest stewardship include consideration for:
Environmental impact
Conserve bio diversity and make sure forest retains its ecological balance and integrity

Monitoring and assessment

The condition and productivity of the forest, and the environmental impacts of management, must be monitored

Maintenance of high conservation value forests

Operations must maintain or enhance the special attributes of these forests

Indigenous people’s rights

Respect for the legal and customary rights of indigenous peoples to own, use and manage their lands, territories and resources

Community and workers’ rights

Forest management must maintain or enhance long-term economic and social well-being for these groups
